Back to Basics – The Russell Hobbs Five Steps to Easier Ironing
1. Choose an iron to suit your needs
The vast majority of us want to get ironing out of the way as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Your choice of iron can either increase or decrease significantly the amount of time you spend on ironing. There are essentially two types of irons – the most popular choice is a steam iron which tends to be less expensive, smaller and more compact than steam generators, which are really designed for those who like to iron in bulk, making them perfect for time pressed families. 2. Read the appliance instructions
They say the simplest tips are the best and reading the instructions for your iron is the best way to get started. Nearly half of the people we questioned confessed they hadn’t read the instruction manual and as a result had ruined clothing by using the wrong setting or starting ironing before the right temperature is reached.
3. Read the clothing instructions
Again, checking the labels before ironing means you will use the right temperature for the right fabric and avoid burning clothes and damaging the plates of your iron. If you’re not sure what they all mean, see the chart below.
4. Reduce the load
To reduce your ironing load, fold and stack sheets, pillowcases and tea-towels in the airing cupboard; the warmth and weight of the clothes will remove most of the creases.
5. Turn up the tunes
Listening to music whilst ironing can be a great way of helping the time pass more quickly. Nearly half of our respondents chose rock and pop as their preferred type of music, with the Queen classic ‘I Want to Break Free’ voted the top motivational song. Russell Hobbs has created a playlist of the Top Ten Tunes for Ironing, listed below. If you don’t have them in your record collection already, you can download for free by clicking here (via www.we7.com ) and click on the songs you want to play.
